The City of Walterboro has an opening for a Technician in the Water Department. The candidate will perform maintenance on the water system, read meters, lawn maintenance around lift stations and other duties as required. Applicant must have a High School Diploma or equivalent with a valid S.C. Driver’s License. Class B CDL not required, but recommended. Minimum salary is $9.32 per hour.

PARKS DEPARTMENT
The City of Walterboro has two (2) openings for a Laborer/Park Attendant in the Parks Department. The successful candidate will be under general supervision and will be responsible for cutting grass, edging, weed eating, trail maintenance, removing trash, maintaining appropriate equipment etc. Minimum 1 – 2 years of experience as a landscaper. Applicant must have a High School Diploma or equivalent with a valid S.C. Driver’s License.

Fire Training Officer
General Statement of Job
The Fire Training Officer works under the general supervision of the Public Safety Director and his/her designee and is responsible for administrative work in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the fire training and certification activities of the department.
Various Duties and Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

Operates a motor vehicle and fire apparatus to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Serves as advisor on state and federally mandated training, national standard making organization training, fire fighting related training and educational requirements set forth by NFPA, ISO OSHA and the State of South Carolina.

May serve as management representative or chair on committees and also serve as City Safety Officer/Trainer providing quarterly training at Safety meetings.

Any and all duties as assigned by the Public Safety Director

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

Valid South Carolina driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Considerable knowledge and proficiency in performing advanced techniques of teaching methodologies.

Must obtain and maintain FFI and FFI Instructor Certification from the South Carolina Fire Academy within two (2) years.
Physical Demands

Employee is frequently required to stand; sit; walk; talk or hear; handle or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.

Employee must frequently lift and/or move up from 50-100 pounds. Arduous physical exertion may be required in unusual situations. Specific visions abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both inside and outside and inclement weather. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to we and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in a normal office setting and loud at an emergency scene.

Public Safety Officer
Under close supervision, Public Safety officers assigned to patrol exercise responsibilities for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Exercises independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations while exercising safety practices and procedures. Public Safety officers assigned to firefighting involve the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fires. Work involves training for and participating in fire fighting duties, providing emergency care for injured persons (first responder), fire prevention, and routine maintenance of fire apparatus. Continuous training and drill in fire fighting techniques and practices. All Public Safety officers are subject to assignment in either patrol or firefighter duties. Public Safety officers will work under stressful, high risk conditions.
